Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, Nigeria – July 2 2026Pastor Paul Douglas, Treasurer of the General Conference, has challenged pastors and their spouses to keep their focus on God in these uncertain times. His submission at the West-Central Africa Division Ministerial Conference devotional message in Babcock University, drew from the Biblical Book of Joshua 3:1-5 and served as a reminder that allowing God to pilot their affairs is better than relying on man.
“What lies ahead cannot be accomplished by personal experience alone but only through the Lord,” he said. “If you don’t make a way for the Lord, there is no way.”

While encouraging the delegates to lift their eyes to God who stands before every flood, he cautioned them not to mistake the size of the river for the size of God.  He therefore urged all to remember that God is still at work.

“The God who worked with Moses, Joshua and Daniel is still working today,” he said. “If we prepare and humble ourselves, the promised echo at the River Jordan would be the same in Babcock University.”
He admonished all to rest their confidence on the One who sees it all. Joshua, he said, was not focused on strategy as people talk about today, but on having a deeper understanding of God. Though the Lord had promised Joshua victory, the people still faced the burden of the River Jordan, Pastor Douglas observed.

He said the conference, was to remind ourselves of God’s presence and invitation to rest and renew our commitment to Him. Many have come with the burdens of ministry, concerns for children, aged parents, spouses, or those who are tired and even smiling through pain. Yet, as Israel came through the wilderness with waiting and uncertainty, they were able to stand on the land God had promised them.

“The river may be different from the one Israel faced in Joshua’s time, but the same God who led Joshua will do everything for His people today,” he noted.
