Seventh-day Adventists have the privilege and responsibility of announcing the imminent return of Jesus Christ to the world, General Conference President Pastor Erton C. Köhler told thousands of church members and leaders during a special worship service in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.
Preaching from Revelation 1:7, Köhler reminded the congregation that Christ's second coming is the central hope of the our faith and the defining message entrusted to the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
"Jesus is coming again," he stressed. "This is not merely a doctrine that we believe; it is the hope we proclaim to the world. God has entrusted His church with the privilege of announcing Christ's soon return to every nation, tribe, language and people. This is the thrust of the three angels’ message," he urged.
The GC president said the OneVoice27 initiative provides an unprecedented opportunity in 2027 to mark 2,000 years of the 27AD anointing of Jesus Christ for His earthly ministry. He stressed that OneVoice27 will help the Church to mobilize the global Seventh-day Adventist family around a single mission which is to proclaim the blessed hope of Christ's return.
The worship service formed the highlight of Pastor Köhler's first official visit to the West-Central Africa Division (WAD) as President of the General Conference.
During his visit to Port Harcourt, Pastor Köhler also paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara, at the Government House. The visit underscored the Seventh-day Adventist Church's commitment to fostering positive relationships with government while advancing its mission of service to society.

Accompanied by his wife, Adriene Marques Köhler, his daughter, Mariana Marques Köhler, Associate Secretary and Assistant to the President, Pastor Magdiel Perez Schulz, and a delegation of church leaders from the 22 countries of the West-Central Africa Division, Köhler expressed appreciation for the Governor's warm reception and commended his administration's efforts toward the development of the State. He also offered prayers for Governor Fubara, asking God to grant him wisdom, strength, and discernment as he leads the state.

Governor Fubara noted that it was a privilege to receive the leader of the worldwide Seventh-day Adventist Church. He praised the denomination for its enduring contributions to education, healthcare, humanitarian service, and moral development, noting that the Church's institutions and community outreach programmes have positively impacted countless lives.
The Governor observed that the Adventist Church has consistently demonstrated that faith can be expressed through practical service and affirmed that such values complement government's efforts to improve the welfare of citizens. He pledged support for the mission of the Church and the proposed Southern Nigeria Union Conference.
Pastor Köhler also inspected the site and building designated to serve as the headquarters of the proposed Southern Nigeria Union Conference (SNUC) in Port Harcourt. The proposed union is expected to emerge from the reorganization of the Eastern Nigeria Union Conference (ENUC), which currently comprises 17 conferences and one mission, making it the largest union within the West-Central Africa Division. Church leaders said the reorganization is intended to strengthen administrative effectiveness, enhance pastoral support, and accelerate the Church's mission across Southern Nigeria.
Despite Köhler’s full day of activities in Port Harcourt, pastors and their wifes lined the route to Babcock University after nightfall to welcome the world church leader upon his arrival on campus, where the WAD Bible Conference and Leadership Summit is being held.
Pastor Köhler is in Nigeria to participate in the Division-wide Bible Conference and Leadership Summit, which has brought together administrators, pastors and church leaders from the 22 countries that comprise the West-Central Africa Division.
West-Central Africa Division President, Pastor Bassey E. O. Udoh expressed deep appreciation for the World Church’s support for the Summit, describing it as a source of encouragement to the rapidly growing church across the Division's 22 countries.
