In a powerful display of faith and fellowship, more than 7,000 women gathered for a National Women’s Ministries Prayer Conference, a landmark event that emphasized spiritual renewal, leadership training, and mission.
Held from September 23-28, 2025, at the University of Ghana, the gathering under the theme
“Called to Pray, Equipped to Serve” was one of the largest of its kind in recent years for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the region. The event represented the collective efforts of the Women’s Ministries departments from the three local union conferences.
A significant focus of the week was leadership development, culminating in more than 1,023 women graduating from a Women’s Ministries Leadership Certification course, equipping them for enhanced service in their local churches and communities.
“This conference was not just an event; it was a divine appointment,” said Mrs. Christiana Agyenim Boateng, one of the union Women’s Ministries directors. “To see thousands of women united in prayer and purpose is a testament to what God can do through a surrendered heart.”
The conference featured Mrs. Omobonike Adeola Sessou, associate director of Women’s Ministries for the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, as the guest speaker.
In her sermons, she drew inspiration from the lives of women in the Bible, encouraging attendees to be “obedient, courageous, fearless, and mission-minded” in their homes, churches, and communities.
Distinguished guests included Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, who served as the Special Guest of Honour. In her address, she highlighted the vital roles women play in society and stressed that true purpose is found in devotion to God. Hon. Sowah also demonstrated her support with a personal donation of 10,000 Ghanaian cedis to the ministry.
The spiritual core of the conference featured two days dedicated to intensive fasting and prayer, with intercessions offered for women, children, the church, and global concerns. The event’s solemnity was further deepened during the final evening through a communion service, a half-night of prayer, and a moving candlelight service.
A special ceremony was held to honor Mrs. Sessou for her years of dedicated service and leadership as the former Women’s Ministries director for the West-Central Africa Division. She was presented with gifts in appreciation for her work. In a reciprocal gesture, Mrs. Sessou presented scripture inscribed gifts to the Women’s Ministries directors and leaders from the various local conferences.
Also in attendance were the presidents of the three hosting unions, Pastor Dr. T.T. Ocran, Pastor Dr. Kwame Annor-Boahen, and Pastor Dr. Edward Nyarko, alongside other conference directors and church leaders, who all joined in supporting the historic gathering.
