FIRST FEMALE ADVENTIST HIGH COURT JUDGE SWORN INTO OFFICE

Justice Dorinda Smith Arthur made history on Monday, September 30, 2024, as she was sworn in by President Nana Akuffo Addo as a High Court Judge. The ceremony, held at the Jubilee House in Accra, marks a significant milestone for both Justice Smith-Arthur and the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Justice Smith-Arthur is celebrated as the first female Seventh-day Adventist to achieve this prestigious position in Ghana. She is a member of the Cape Coast Central Church and an Executive Committee member of the Mid-South Ghana Conference. The church community has expressed immense pride and joy in her accomplishment.
At a thanksgiving service held at the Cape Coast Central Church, she was presented with citations from Adventist churches in Ghana and outside Ghana. The citation of the two Unions in Ghana read, “Your appointment as a High Court Judge marks a historic milestone and fills the Adventist Church in Ghana with immense pride and joy. Be assured of our continuous support and prayer”.

The Ghana National Association of Adventist Students (GNAAS), a group she has supported praised her for her dedication to the rule of law, integrity and fairness. “You have not only excelled in your legal expertise but also shown a profound understanding of the human experiences embodying compassion and fairness in every decision”.
Speaking at the thanksgiving programme, Justice Smith-Arthur attributed her success to God and was thankful to the Lord for her achievement. She expressed her appreciation in a song that affirmed God’s leadership and protection in her journey as a judge in Ghana.
Before her elevation to the High Court, Justice Smith Arthur served with distinction as a Circuit Court Judge in Cape Coast. Her journey and dedication to justice have inspired many.
